Could there be a sweeter nectar?

What’s the word on the oak it was aged in? My buddy and I both agreed on some big bourbon up front, but we’re both pretty new to oaked beers, so take it with a grain of salt. The stout was equally good and left a similar first impression.

Out of the five beers I sampled, my favorite was probably the Anniversary. Next six pack I see in the store is definitely riding shotgun with the milk and butter.

I could see the bourbon thing for sure. I was surprised and delighted at how smooth it was after a year on oak, so it makes sense that this might be second-gen oak. Generally, I’m used to more oaky flavors than this had, but I was really into it. I also caught a fleeting whiff of some noble hops in there that I’d never spotted in Celebration before.

I wanted to sample the oak-aged Harvest, but I had to get home to let the dog out. I was talking with one of the SN employees, and he told me it was best fresh, so I avoided it. He told me to watch for 24 oz. bottles this fall …

Instead, I had the Anniversary on John Foyston’s recommendation and was not disappointed. Very delicious.
