American Efficiency

A 2006 study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year.

Another study found that Americans drink an average of 22 gallons of beer a year.

That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles per gallon.
(in more useful terms, that’s a wee bit over 5 miles per pint)

Call me geeky but I went looking for the studies! And found this item with “Canadians” instead of Americans, with the study supposedly performed at Louisiana State or at Texas A&M, and with it called “an old joke” instead of a 2006 study. Sounds like urban legend.

Ooooh, I have some more studies for you:

Two independent studies, one by the University of Tel Aviv and another at Brown, determined that humans can, in fact only live an average of 2.3 days on beer alone (before dying of dehydration). None of the study’s participants were able to walk 900 miles OR drink 22 gallons of beer in that time.

A 2005 study at the University of Delaware found that 22% of people believe, literally, “everything they read on the Internet is true.”

    Are you religious?
