Look for a lot of Smoked Hop Porter coming out of the Pacific Northwest this year.
The Associated Press reported up to four percent of the U.S. hop crop went up in flames yesterday following a fire in a warehouse in the Yakima Valley of Washington. An estimated 10,000 bales (2 million pounds) of hops valued at between $3.5 to 4 million were destroyed.
This isn’t the first time this has happened either. Back in 1999 another fire in Yakima claimed 6,500 bales of hops.
When reached for comment the Washington Wine Board denied ever being in Yakima and then followed it up by saying they are not sure if they even know where Yakima is.

The beer police are now investigating.
