The Big Brew

This was written by on May 5, 2006

Saturday is National Homebrew Day, and the brew crew and I will be celebrating with a new brew: Brick Shithouse IPA. The plan is to take a fairly stock Pale Ale recipe, add some mega maltiness and husky hops. My plan as of 9AM Friday is 10 oz. Cascade hops – 4 boiling, 2 @ 10 min to finish, 2 more in last minute of boil, and 2 oz. pellets in the fermenter. This is one big Miss.

Biddys on AltPortland

This was written by on

If you’re not reading AltPortland yet (shame on you), they’ve got a review of Biddy’s, my neighborhood watering hole and favorite St. Patrick’s Day haunt. Great Guinness, and I think a pretty darn good burger. Get the one with avacado and bacon. Mmm.

An Open Letter to Deschutes Brewery

This was written by on May 1, 2006

Dear Deschutes,

Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you thank you.

Inversion IPA is everything I could want in an IPA, hoppy and malty, slightly sweet, but not syrupy or thick. Great cold, better warmer, but best of all, Made in Bend, Oregon.

Terminal Gravity, adieu. Lagunitas, farewell. Both of you make good beer, even great. I thought a 6-pack beer couldn’t get better (although Widmer 05 gave you a low-cost run for your money). I was wrong.

Just in time for summer.
